What Your Nails Are Telling You About Your Health
April 15, 2026 - 4 min read

Your nails are more than a canvas for art - they're windows into your overall health. Our nail specialists often notice signs that clients aren't aware of.
Vertical Ridges
Usually harmless and increase with age. However, very deep ridges can indicate iron deficiency or inflammatory arthritis. A good hydrating base coat can minimize their appearance under gel.
Brittle, Breaking Nails
Often caused by frequent hand washing, exposure to cleaning chemicals, or nutritional deficiencies (biotin, iron, zinc). In Dubai's dry indoor environments, extra moisturizing is essential. We recommend daily cuticle oil and a BIAB (Builder in a Bottle) overlay for protection.
White Spots
Contrary to popular belief, white spots rarely indicate calcium deficiency. They're usually caused by minor trauma to the nail matrix (the growth area). They grow out naturally and are nothing to worry about.
Yellow Discoloration
Can be caused by dark nail polish staining (always use a base coat!), fungal infection, or in rare cases, respiratory conditions. If yellowing persists after removing polish, consult a dermatologist.
Spoon-Shaped Nails
Nails that curve upward at the edges (koilonychia) can indicate iron-deficiency anemia. This is worth discussing with your doctor, especially if accompanied by fatigue.
